consider These numbers ...

We do not intend to directly relate these figures or suggest any connection. Rather, consider them as random examples to realize the financial dimension of our help to refugees. In a next step then you might better be able to reflect on how much we should be willing to leave to others to fulfill our humanitarian obligations.

In 2016, Germany will have to pay about 20 billion Euros for refugees and asylum seekers (source: Ministry of Finance).

This could be financed easily...

  • In 2014, Germans spent about 87 billion Euros for holiday trips. If these expenses were cut by half for one year, we could still finance twice as many refugees as now. (Source: Forschungsgemeinschaft Urlaub und Reisen FUR)
  • In 2014, Germans paid about 85 billion Euros for Christmas (mostly consumption expenses in the months of November and December). What about being moderate this year and save money for refugees? (Source: Handelsverband Deutschland)
  • In 2015, Germans are expected to spend more than 9 billion Euros on smart phones (excluding expenses for Apps). Using one's phone only one year further generates roughly half of the expenses for  refugees in 2016. (Source: Bitkom)
